Lukas Haas (born April 16, 1976 in West Hollywood , California ) is an American actor .

life and work

Haas, son of the Texas screenwriter Emily Tracy and the German artist Berthold Haas, made his debut alongside Jane Alexander and William Devane in the film drama The Last Testament (1983). In the thriller The Only Witness (1985) he played the little boy Samuel Lapp , who witnesses a murder and is protected by John Book ( Harrison Ford ). For this role he was nominated for the Young Artist Award for the first time in 1986 . In 1989 he won the award for his roles in the films A Place at the Table (1987) and Die phantastische Reise ins Jenseits (1988), for the second film he was also nominated for the Saturn Award in 1990.

For his role in the thriller Music Box - The Whole Truth (1989) by Constantin Costa-Gavras , in which Haas played alongside Jessica Lange , he was again nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1990. Another nomination for this award was for the role in the film drama The Lust of the Beautiful Rose (1991), in which he appeared on the side of Laura Dern , Robert Duvall and Diane Ladd . For the role in the television film Im Schatten des Todes (1991) he won the Young Artist Award again.

Haas played in the comedy Der Schein-Heilige (1992) the role of the disabled Boyd , whom the faith healer Jonas Nightengale ( Steve Martin ) was able to cure. For the role in the comedy Mars Attacks! (1996) Haas was nominated for the Saturn Award in 1997. In 1999 he received the President Award at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival.
