Ann takes the case. Your opponent is public prosecutor Jack Burke, who has brought in numerous eyewitnesses from Hungary for the trial, all of whom testify that Mike Laszlo was the perpetrator. Ann again due to the testimony of a KGB - defector doubt arouse the judge whether Mike Laszlo fact that Mishka called culprit.
The longer Ann looks into her father's case, the more her own doubts grow. Her father, for example, had regularly sent large sums of money to another Hungarian in exile and stopped doing so after the latter had had a fatal accident in an accident involving a driver who had escaped . When Jack Burke locates another, but bedridden, witness, the court travels to Budapest to question witnesses. Ann can use documents that she received from a dubious gentleman in the hotel to cast doubt on the credibility of the witness and thus the truthfulness of the testimony, so that the court decides on acquittal. Ann uses her stay in Hungary to visit the sister of the exiled Hungary supported by her father. In a photo in their apartment she sees a man with a long scar on his face, similar to the one described by the witnesses, and thereby identifies the colleague of the so-called Mishka . The old lady also gives Ann a pawn ticket.
Back in the USA, Ann uses the note to trigger a music box in the pawn shop . In it she finds photos that prove that her father Mike Laszlo is the then Mishka and murderer from Budapest. When she confronts him with the evidence, he still denies being that Mishka. Ann decides to give the photos to Jack Burke.
The film ends with Ann learning from the newspaper that her father has been convicted because of the pictures; then she goes with her son Mikey on the terrace and tries to explain the situation to him.
Reviews
“A sensitively told family tragedy about the painful realization that the person you love is a 'beast'. Exceptionally interpreted right into the supporting roles, the film raises questions of guilt and remorse without getting lost in sentimentality. "
