Frederic Fennimore Forrest, Jr. (born December 23, 1936 in Waxahachie , Texas ) is an American actor who has appeared in over 80 film and television productions.

life and career

Frederic Forrest began his acting career in the mid-1960s at the theater in New York. He had his first role in 1966 in the off-Broadway production Viet Rock . He later worked for the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club under director Tom O'Horgan in plays such as Futz and Tom Paine .

He played his first film role in The Filthy Five , a low-budget production . As a result, he became a busy actor, mostly in supporting roles. He worked repeatedly with director Francis Ford Coppola , who cast him in Der Dialog (1974), Apocalypse Now (1979) and One with a Heart (1981), as well as The Stone Boy (1984) produced by Coppola .

Forrest was nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Rose (1979) . Directed by Wim Wenders , he played the title character of Dashiell Hammett in Hammett (1982) .

He became known to a younger audience in 1987 through the role of Captain Richard Jenko in the first season of the television series 21 Jump Street - Tatort Klassenzimmer at the side of Johnny Depp . In 1993 Forrest was seen in Joel Schumacher's thriller Falling Down - A normal day as a fascist owner of a military store. Johnny Depp cast him in 1997 in his directorial debut The Brave in the role of Lou senior . In 2006 Forrest retired from acting after playing a supporting role in the star-studded Hollywood film The Game of Power .

Forrest was married to his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ann Whittaker, from 1960 to 1963. His second wife was the actress Marilu Henner from 1980 to 1982 . Both marriages ended in divorce.
