action

Julie Richman lives in a valley known as a preferred residential area (the San Fernando Valley , Valley ). She is handsome and popular in school. Richman breaks up with her boyfriend Tommy, a little later she meets the punk Randy (Nicolas Cage). She spends her free time with him, which her friends dislike because Randy doesn't live in the valley. They threaten Richman that they would end their friendship with her if she continued to meet Randy. At first she says she loves Randy, but then she makes up with Tommy.

Randy's mood is bad. He meets with his former girlfriend and is caught in a fight against a gang from which Fred Bailey saves him. Randy takes odd jobs in the valley that allow him to see Richman. Bailey devises a plan to reunite Richman and Randy. He takes Randy to an event that Tommy and Julie are attending. You are to be crowned as the prom king and the prom queen. It turns out that Bailey's alleged plan does not provide for any further action.

At the end there is a fight between Tommy and Randy. Julie and Randy drive away together in Tommy's rental car.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on April 29, 1983 that the film was a "little treasure": a "funny, sexy, appealing" story about a girl who has to choose between two boys. The comedy differs positively from numerous other teenage films of the time.

background

The film was shot in Los Angeles and Torrance ( California turned). Musician Frank Zappa later unsuccessfully sued the production company for using the title Valley Girl . A big regional hit of his with his daughter Moon in 1982 made fun of the grotesque, meaningless speech of the Valley Girls . The production cost of the film was estimated at 350,000 US dollars .
