Margaux Hemingway (born February 16, 1954 in Portland , Oregon , † July 1, 1996 in Santa Monica , California ; actually Margot Louise Hemingway ) was an American actress and model .

biography

Margaux Hemingway was the granddaughter of Nobel Prize winner Ernest Hemingway and the older sister of actress Mariel Hemingway . She grew up on the farm of her grandfather in Ketchum ( Idaho on).

Perfume maker Fabergé signed her for $ 1 million in 1975 for its new advertising campaign. She had her first film role in " A woman sees red " (1976).

Margaux Hemingway's two marriages, with Erroll Weston and with Bernard Foucher in the late 1970s, failed. As a result, she increasingly suffered from her alcoholic illness . In 1988 she was admitted to the Betty Ford Center for rehab. The attempt to overcome her addiction failed and Hemingway became increasingly lonely.

After neighbors hadn't seen her for several days, police broke a window into her apartment and found Hemingway dead. An overdose of sedatives was found in her blood . Hemingway had apparently also committed suicide the day before her grandfather's suicide anniversary .

Margaux Hemingway was the fifth member of the Hemingways family in three generations to die by suicide. In addition to her grandfather, her great-grandfather, her great-uncle Leicester (September 13, 1982 at the age of 67) and a sister of her grandfather also killed themselves. (see the Hemingway family ).
