Mariel Hadley Hemingway (born November 22, 1961 in Mill Valley , California ) is an American actress . She is the granddaughter of the writer Ernest Hemingway and the younger sister of Margaux Hemingway .

Life

Mariel was 14 years old in the film Lipstick - A woman sees red for the first time before the camera . For her performance, she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Young Actress at the time . She received an Oscar nomination for her next role as the friend of the "urban neurotic" in Woody Allen's Manhattan . In 1981 she was seen on German television with the TV production I want to keep my baby , in which she played an underage mother. In the same year she took part in Personal Best . In 1983 she took on the role of Dorothy Stratten in Star 80 . In 1987 she played the friend of Colonel Andrei Denisov ( Sam Neill ) in the television series America , which turns away from her boyfriend and the USA under Soviet occupation at the risk of her life.

In addition to flops such as Sunset - Twilight in Hollywood , which earned her a nomination for the Golden Raspberry for worst supporting actress, she was also able to record other successes. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Civil War , a series from the early 1990s. She ran her restaurant "Sam's Cafe" in New York from 1986 because she "always felt terrible" between two films.

Mariel Hemingway has two daughters together with the documentary filmmaker and film producer Stephen Crisman : Model Dree Hemingway (* 1987) and Langley Fox Hemingway (* 1989).
