Murder Included in the Fare (Compartiment tueurs) is an early 1965 film by the Greek-French director Costa-Gavras based on a novel by Sébastien Japrisot .

action

Inspector Grazziani and his assistant Jean-Lou are investigating a murder case. A young woman was murdered in a couchette compartment from Marseille to Paris. She was strangled, but neither robbed nor a victim of sexual violence. During the investigation, the fellow travelers who are to be questioned or who are suspected are gradually murdered. The young Daniel and his girlfriend Bambi, who met on the train and were also in this compartment, are also in danger. Through their considered and courageous actions, the serial killer can finally be unmasked - it is the intern in the police station who was able to easily access the addresses of the witnesses. The first murder was just a cloaking maneuver; the murder of one of the witnesses was the actual plan, which involved a lot of money.

Reviews

“First film interested in realistic depiction with good performance; however, the level of detail sometimes makes the tension suffer. "

“A perfume salesman is murdered on the long-distance train from Marseilles to Paris. The officials hope that the case is not too difficult, assuming jealousy to be the motive for the crime. But in search of fellow travelers, they encounter unusual competition: the murderer, who apparently wants to kill everyone who was in the compartment with the victim. Logically and excitingly staged and played excellently, the film is a good start to your career. "

“A French widescreen crime thriller about solving a woman's murder in the couchette compartment of a night express train. Magnificently designed and brilliantly played, it bears the characteristics of a newcomer to director (Costa-Gavras). Nevertheless: very suitable for adult friends of this genre. "

Awards

Costa-Gavras was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award in 1967 . The film won the National Board of Review award for best foreign language film in the same year .
