The lust of the beautiful rose (Original title: Rambling Rose ) is an American drama from 1991 . Directed by Martha Coolidge , the screenplay was written by Calder Willingham based on his own novel from 1972.
action
The action takes place in the 1930s. Rose has had numerous sexual experiences and has been molested in the past. She is employed by the Hilyer family as a domestic help.
Rose tries to seduce Hilyer, but he resists her. His wife, a scientist and feminist, takes care of the young woman. She cares for Rose when she gets sick.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times that the film lives from characters and situations. He offers some of the best performances of the year.
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was designed as a “comedy about the temptation of a prudish southern state morality” , but that it silted up “in an exaggeratedly atmospheric, increasingly inconsequential sentiment” .
