Golden Globe Award / Best Actress - Drama

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Winner and nominee for the Golden Globe Award in the category Best Actress - Drama (since 2005 Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama ), which honors the most outstanding acting achievements of the past calendar year. The category was launched in 1951. From 1944 to 1950, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) awarded an actor's award (Best Actress in a Motion Picture) without any division into film genre.

The best drama actress was awarded the Oscar 40 times later , most recently in 2020 when Renée Zellweger ( Judy ) was awarded the prize . In 1989 ( Shirley MacLaine for Madame Sousatzka ), 1997 ( Brenda Blethyn for Lies and Secrets ) and 2009, the award-winning film role was not considered for the Oscar.

American actresses have won the Acting Award 53 times (including actresses with dual citizenship such as Elizabeth Taylor or Nicole Kidman ), followed by their colleagues from Great Britain (10 victories) and the triple triumph of Sweden's Ingrid Bergman . Actresses from German-speaking countries competed in vain for the award twice in the past: in 1958 Marlene Dietrich for the Hollywood production Witness to the Prosecution and in 1964 Romy Schneider for the English-language drama Der Kardinal . The only victories for a non-English-speaking role went to Anouk Aimée in 1967 for the French production A Man and a Woman , in 1973 Liv Ullmann for the Swedish-language drama Emigranten and in 2017 Isabelle Huppert for the French production Elle .
