Favorites
The nominations in the 25 categories were announced on December 13, 2012. Actors Jessica Alba , Ed Helms and Aida Takla O'Reilly , President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, took on this role . The HFPA members then voted between December 24, 2012 and January 9, 2013 on the winners, who were then honored on January 13. For the first time in the history of the award ceremony, the Golden Globe winners were announced after the Oscar nominations were published (January 10).
In the Film category, feature film productions with a length of at least 70 minutes were considered that had to be shown in Los Angeles for at least seven days between January and December 2012 in order to qualify. Foreign-language feature films were counted productions with at least 51 percent non-English language dialogue that had to be premiered from November 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012. According to the current rules and regulations, these could not qualify in the categories of best film drama and best film comedy / musical. Steven Spielberg's historical drama Lincoln was able to unite the
most frequent nominations in the field of film, but it only managed to convert its seven nominations into one victory (Best Drama Leading Actor - Daniel Day-Lewis ). The most successful film productions was Tom Hooper's musical adaptation Les Misérables , which received three awards (best film musical, leading actor - Hugh Jackman , supporting actress Anne Hathaway ), followed by Ben Affleck's thriller Argo (best film drama, director) and Quentin Tarantino's western film Django Unchained (best supporting actor - Christoph Waltz , screenplay) with two prizes each. The Austrian Michael Haneke was successful in the Best Foreign Language Film category with his French-language drama Love . Tom Tykwer , Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil for Cloud Atlas were nominated as best film composers but did not receive an award .
In the television category, American productions (series, multi-part series, feature films) from the 2012 calendar year were nominated that were broadcast during prime time (7 or 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.). Foreign television programs could not be nominated according to the applicable guidelines, unless they were American co-productions. With five nominations to lead HBO broadcast feature film Game Change - The Sarah Palin effect of Jay Roach , the favorite field and won three awards (Best Mini-Series or TV Movie, Actress - Julianne Moore , Supporting Actor - Ed Harris ). The production had already won five awards at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2012 . The drama series Homeland (Best Drama Series, Best Series Lead Actor - Drama - Claire Danes and Damian Lewis ) , which won the Golden Globe last year, received four nominations and three awards .
The American actress Jodie Foster , who received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her life's work, was already the winner . Foster had twice in the past received the Best Actress in a Drama Award for her later Academy Award-winning performances in The Accused (1989) and The Silence of the Lambs (1992). In addition, she had received five other nominations between 1977 and 2012.
Francesca Eastwood , the daughter of Clint Eastwood and Frances Fisher, assisted in the awarding of the winners as "Miss Golden Globe" . That year there was also a "Mister Golden Globe", namely Sam Michael Fox, the son of Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan .
