Anne Jacqueline Hathaway [ ˈhæθəweɪ ] (born November 12, 1982 in New York ) is an American film actress and Oscar winner.

Life

The daughter of a stage actress and a judge was born in Brooklyn and grew up in New Jersey . Hathaway's maternal grandfather, Joe McCauley, was a well-known radio announcer. Her mother, Kate, has Irish ancestry, while her father, Gerald, is of Irish, French, English and German descent. The surname Hathaway, however, has English origins. It was named after the wife of William Shakespeare . Hathaway attended Vassar College and then moved to the Gallatin School of Individualized Study , a New York University facility . She won several prizes during her training.

The first time she stood in front of the camera for the television series Six under one roof . She became known worldwide in 2001 for the film Princess Suddenly , in which she can be seen at the side of Julie Andrews . In the comedy, she portrays an inconspicuous American girl who learns that she is really a princess and heir to the throne in a European dwarf state. The 37 million US dollar first part, which grossed over 108 million US dollars in North America alone, was followed three years later by the equally successful sequel Suddenly Princess 2 .

In 2005, Ang Lee cast Hathaway for his multi- Oscar- winning drama Brokeback Mountain . There she plays Lureen Twist, the wife of Jack Twist (played by Jake Gyllenhaal ). In 2006 the comedy The Devil Wears Prada followed , in which she led the acting ensemble around Meryl Streep , Emily Blunt , Simon Baker , Stanley Tucci and Adrian Grenier . In 2007 the film Beloved Jane followed , in which she played the young Jane Austen and appeared on the side of James McAvoy , Julie Walters , James Cromwell and Maggie Smith . The following year she delighted critics with the lead role in Jonathan Demmes Rachel's Wedding . For the part of an unstable ex-drug addict who leaves her rehab for a few days to attend her sister's wedding, Hathaway received the National Board of Review award and nominations for the Golden Globe and for an Oscar. In 2007/2008 she also starred as Agent 99 on the side of Steve Carell , Dwayne Johnson and Alan Arkin in the film Get Smart .

In addition to a musical performance with the then presenter Hugh Jackman at the opening ceremony of the 81st Academy Awards , she hosted the 83rd Academy Awards on February 27, 2011 together with her fellow actor James Franco . At 28, she was the youngest presenter in the history of the award ceremony.

In January 2011, Warner Bros. announced that Hathaway won the casting for the role of Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in the film The Dark Knight Rises . 2012 followed the part as Fantine in the film adaptation of the musical Les Miserables . For this role, she lost eleven kilograms and had her hair cut in a movie scene. For her performance she won 2013 a . a. an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.

She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 9, 2019 .

Private life

Hathaway had a four-year relationship with Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri, and the couple split in mid-2008.

Hathaway has been in a relationship with actor Adam Shulman since the end of 2008, and the couple's wedding took place on September 29, 2012. Their son was born in March 2016.

After learning of her brother's homosexuality, she internally distanced herself from the Roman Catholic Church , and later she and her family moved to the Episcopal Church of the United States of America . Hathaway described herself in 2010 as a "non-denominational Christian".

Dubbing voice
