British Academy Film Awards 2013
The 66th British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place on February 10, 2013 at the Royal Opera House , London . The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) film awards were presented in 24 categories. The event was hosted by British actor and presenter Stephen Fry , who was in this position for the eighth time.
Ben Affleck's thriller Argo was awarded for best film, and Affleck also won the award for best director. The James Bond film Skyfall was voted the best British film . The musical adaptation Les Misérables received the most awards, with a total of four prizes. Steven Spielberg's historical drama Lincoln , which had received the most nominations with ten nominations, went out of the running with a single award for Daniel Day-Lewis as best actor. Emmanuelle Riva won the award for best leading actress for her role in Michael Haneke's Kammerspiel Liebe , which was recognized as best non-English language film.
Electoral process
For a nomination for the 66th British Academy Film Awards, all feature films were considered that were released in the UK between January 1 and December 31, 2012 , or those with a planned release by February 8, 2013 by the distributor in advance Academy were presented. For short films and animated short films were special rules, only British productions have been approved for these categories.
In 2013, the number of ballots was reduced to two, the announcement of a longlist was dropped. All of the 6500 BAFTA members were able to vote in the Best Film category and in the four actor categories . In the other categories, only members of the relevant Academy chapters were eligible to vote; a jury voted on the best young talent by a British author, director or producer . The nominations in the category of best young actors were also determined by a jury, but the winner was determined as the audience award in an online vote.
The nominations for the British Academy Film Awards were announced on January 9, 2012. Lincoln received the most nominations with ten nominations, followed by Les Misérables and Ang Lee's literary adaptation Life of Pi: Shipwreck with Tiger with nine nominations each. James Bond 007: Skyfall received eight nominations . Of these four films, however, only Ang Lee received a nomination for Best Director .
