Michael Semanick

Michael Semanick (* 1963 ) is an American sound engineer .

Life

Semanick studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston . During his school days he already worked on a voluntary basis at the Antioch Community Theater in lighting and sound engineering. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree, he moved to California and worked in music production, including for Saul Zaentz , and worked with Joe Satriani , Todd Rundgren and MC Hammer , among others . From the beginning of the 1990s he switched to the film industry, but occasionally still worked in the music sector, so in 1996 he mixed the music for the feature film The English Patient .

Semanick worked on the entire Lord of the Rings film trilogy . For this he was initially nominated twice for an Oscar . He finally received the Oscar in 2004 for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King . He then worked on Peter Jackson's next film project, King Kong , for which he won his second Oscar in 2006. Since then, he has been nominated for an Oscar seven more times.

Semanick lives in Marin County with his wife and three children .
