action
Padmé Amidala , the Senator of the planet Naboo , returns to Coruscant , the central world of the Galactic Republic, to vote in the Galactic Senate to establish a Republic Army. She wants to speak out against an army. During the landing, a bomb attack is carried out on her spaceship, which she survives unharmed at the expense of her doppelganger Cordé. On the advice of Chancellor Palpatines , the Jedi Order then appoints two of its members, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker , to protect the Senator.
During the night with a Flugdroiden and two poisonous millipede another attempt perpetrated an attack on Senator -like animals. Obi-Wan and Anakin follow the robot to its owner, a bounty hunter named Zam Wesell. But before she can reveal the name of her client, Jango Fett , he shoots her from an ambush. The Jedi decide to send Senator Amidala back to Naboo with Anakin Skywalker for her own safety. Obi-Wan is assigned to find the bounty hunter.
While Anakin and Amidala travel to Naboo disguised as refugees, the trail of the bounty hunter Obi-Wan leads to the planet Kamino . There he is received by the Kaminoans, and they show him an army of clones that they produced for the republic on behalf of the master Sifo-Dyas, who died under mysterious circumstances. On Kamino, Obi-Wan also meets Jango Fett for the first time, who was hired as a clone host on one of the Bogden moons by a man named Darth Tyranus when he was hunting the ex-Jedi Komari Vosa. Obi-Wan suspects Fett was involved in the assassinations of Senator Amidala and tries to arrest him for the Jedi Council to interrogate. Jango Fett escapes, but Obi-Wan attaches a tracking device to Fett's ship.
On Naboo, Anakin and Padmé begin to fall in love, but Anakin also senses that his mother, whom he left on Tatooine ten years ago, is doing badly . He leaves for Tatooine with Padmé and learns from Watto , the scrap dealer, that his mother has been freed from slavery and married. When he finds his mother's husband, Cliegg Lars , he tells him that his mother was kidnapped by Tusken robbers, a native of Tatooine. He follows the trail of the Sand People and finds his mother, weakened by torture, who dies in his arms. Contrary to his code, he hates all sand people in the camp, including women and children.
Meanwhile, Obi-Wan follows the escaping Jango Fett and his son Boba with the help of the tracking device attached to the ship to a desert planet called Geonosis . There he overheard a meeting of the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus with representatives of the Trade Federation and other leaders of the Separatists. Tyranus is the leader of an anti-Republic confederation of star systems and hopes to win the droid armies of the Trade Federation to his master's plan to plunge the Republic into civil war. Nute Gunray , the viceroy of the Trade Federation, demands Amidala's death in return, which explains the assassination attempts on the senator. Before Obi-Wan can fully convey his discoveries to the Jedi Council in Coruscant, he is captured. During interrogation by Tyranus, Obi-Wan is offered an alliance with the Confederation, since the Republic is under the influence of a Sith. So Tyranus pretends to act against the Sith with his separation. Obi-Wan refuses.
Anakin Skywalker, who heard the news of Obi-Wan after his mother's funeral, set off from Tatooine to Geonosis with Amidala to save Obi-Wan. Meanwhile, the droid R2 D2 sent Obi-Wan's message to Coruscant. On Geonosis, Anakin, Padmé, R2 D2 and C-3PO discover that the Geonosians are building a droid army for the Separatists. After escaping through the manufacturing facilities, they too are captured.
On Coruscant, the Jedi Council decides to send all available Jedi Knights to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Senator Amidala and to unravel the secrets of the Trade Federation and the Trade Guilds. At the same time, on Jar Jar Binks' proposal, the Senate grants the Chancellor emergency powers so that he can deploy the clone army.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Senator Amidala, who were sentenced to death, are due to be executed in an arena . The Jedi are able to prevent their execution, but are attacked by the Geonosian droid army. Dozens of Jedi Knights fall victim to the droids' laser weapons and the Jedi are cornered. Without a chance against the overwhelming odds, they are only saved by the arriving clone troops led by Master Yoda . The Clone Wars begin with a major battle between the clone soldiers and the droid army. A massive planet-wide battle ensues in which the clone warriors can prove their superiority over the droids. Several trade guild spaceships are destroyed as they attempt to escape. Anakin and Obi-Wan follow Darth Tyranus to a hangar where his own spaceship is waiting for him in the turmoil of the fight. Although Obi-Wan tries to corner Tyranus with Anakin, Anakin attacks him alone. Tyranus throws him against the wall with a lightning bolt of power and he passes out.
Darth Tyranus, despite a lightsaber -Kampfes against Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and eventually escape even Master Yoda. Anakin loses his right arm in this fight. Tyranus flees to Coruscant, where he meets his master Darth Sidious . Both arranged the war so that the Chancellor would be given powers to ultimately destroy democracy. Darth Tyranus pursued a plan to separate the Jedi and the Republic from each other, although he also signed their death warrant. The Sith are preparing to carry out their plan.
Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala return to Naboo and secretly marry, as such a bond is forbidden to a Jedi. Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Mace Windu reflect on the Clone War in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Thousands of clone warriors are marching in giant spaceships and preparing for a gigantic war that will change the galaxy.

The consequences of the series The Powers of Fate take place at different times, so that a list in the table is not meaningful. Also not listed miniseries, short stories, comics, books and other ancillary works of the official Star Wars - canon and the theme park Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (between VIII and IX). The fictitious calendar of the Star Wars universe is used for the schematic classification of the actions . This differentiates between the years before the Battle of Yavin (VSY) and after the Battle of Yavin (NSY). places
- Coruscant , a single city, a so-called macropolis . The planet is the political center of the galaxy, the Galactic Republic . There is also the Galactic Senate and the Jedi Temple with the Jedi High Council. The head of state of the planet is Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine . Coruscant is home to more than a trillion residents of all kinds. Most live in Galactic City.
- Naboo , an idyllic planet in the Chommell Sector. Its capital is Theed, which is also where the royal palace is located. The landscape of Naboos is characterized by forests, meadows and lakes. Another species on this planet are the Gungans, who live in underwater cities such as B. Gunga City, which is located in Paonga Lake. In contrast to most other planets, the world itself has a porous core that is criss-crossed by extensive underwater caves and canals. Naboo is the home planet of Padmé Amidala and Senator Sheev Palpatine, as well as Jar Jar Binks.
- Tatooine , a desert planet orbiting a pair of twin suns. It's a refuge for smugglers, criminals and people who don't want to be found. The planet is the homeworld of Anakin and his mother Shmi Skywalker. The planet is ruled by Jabba.
- Kamino , planet whose system is on the edge of the republic. The planet actually consists only of a huge sea. The residents, the Kaminoans, live in stake towns. Kamino is also the production planet of the clones.
backgrounds
- Most of the film was produced with film cameras with the HDCAM system. George Lucas earned this reputation as a pioneer in the use of digital cinema cameras .
- The Clones first appear in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones . As long as they wear their armor, they only consist of computer-generated images and are not represented by real people. The movements and armor of the stormtroopers from the earlier episodes served as a template.
- While Anakin fights the Sand People with hatred, the voice of Qui-Gon can be heard, spoken by Liam Neeson .
- Luke Skywalker's future foster parents Owen and Beru Lars make a brief appearance. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett from The Empire Strikes Back also appears as a child-like clone of Jango Fett. In addition, the Death Star, known from Star Wars , is mentioned as the ultimate weapon and part of the separatists' plans, and its design is briefly shown as a hologram.
- In the scenes where the character Cordé is in the cruiser and walks down the ramp, she was actually portrayed by Natalie Portman . Her death scene, however, was played by the actress Verónica Segura .
- In the description of the collapse of the republic - especially as a "multi-ethnic empire" - clear references to similar political upheavals in human history can be seen ( Roman Empire , Cromwellian England , Napoleonic France, Weimar Republic , Austria-Hungary ).
- A 3D re-release, which was planned for September 20, 2013 (Episode I was released in 3D in theaters in February 2012), was canceled by Lucasfilm on January 29, 2013. This was justified with the work on a new sequel trilogy of the Star Wars saga, which requires full capacities.
- Despite the cancellation on July 26, 2013, the English version of the film was shown exclusively in 3D at the Star Wars Celebration Europe .
- In early 2002, the novel by Alan Dean Foster , "A storm draws up" (The Approaching Storm) was published for the first time, the plot of which is set shortly before Episode II and tells its immediate history. The English-language audio book for The Approaching Storm will be read by Alexander Adams .
- Jude Watson also wrote the Jedi Quest series of novels , the story of which takes place between episodes I and II and focuses on the experiences of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
Different versions
As with all other Star Wars films, Attack the Clone Warriors have different versions. So there were two different theatrical versions. One for the numerous analogue cinemas, which was completed in April 2002, and a digital version, which was delivered a little later to the few digital cinemas that existed in 2002. This digital version could then also be found on the VHS and DVD home theater evaluation. In addition, the 2011 Blu-ray version brought further changes.
The digital theatrical version is a few seconds longer than the analog version. Additional dialogues have been added to two scenes, and a third change contains a new shot in which Anakin's artificial hand at the wedding can be seen more clearly. In addition, there should have been numerous small color corrections.
For the Blu-ray release, the sequence of scenes was changed minimally at various points, and a cry for help from his mother Shmi was added during Anakin's nightmare.
The analog theatrical version of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clone Warriors , which was seen by the majority of the visitors in 2002, was never released on VHS, laser disc, DVD or Blu-ray.
For the video-on-demand publication, the Fox clip has been removed for the first time since the Disney takeover .
synchronization
The synchronization was done by Berliner Synchron GmbH based on a dialogue book and dialogue direction by Tobias Meister. Since Gerry Wolff, who voiced Yoda in Episode I, retired in 2001, Meister took over the role.

For example, Travers praised the "representation of the dark side, as Lucas has not brought it to the screen since The Empire Strikes Back from 1980."
The film service praised the "numerous references to the art, fantasy and emotional world of the 19th century, which break out in the roller coaster of poetic dreams and martial excesses". However, the film's lack of “narrative density” was criticized.
