Ewoks - Kampf um Endor (Original title: Ewoks: The Battle for Endor , alternatively Star Wars: Ewok Adventures - The Battle for Endor ), also known as Star Wars: Ewoks - Kampf um Endor , is an American science fiction / fantasy - 1985 film directed by Jim Wheat and Ken Wheat . After the great success of the first part of Ewok - The Caravan of the Brave , George Lucas decided to produce a second part. In addition, the main character should be the same age as his daughter Amanda. Thus the film revolves around “Cindel Towani”.

action

Without any specific reference to the plot of the Star Wars core saga, the film takes place at some point between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi on the forest moon Endor, on which the plot of The Return of the Jedi is partially set . The plot takes place after the events of The Ewoks and continues the events of the first part Star Wars: Ewoks - The Caravan of the Brave about six months later.

About six months have passed since the Gorax incident (see Ewoks - The Caravan of the Brave ). Wicket W. Warrick learned the Towani family language quite well with Cindel's help. The repairs to the spaceship , with which the Towani family intends to fly home again soon, are almost finished. While Jeremitt Towani (father of Mace and Cindel) is busy with repairs on the spaceship, the village of the Ewoks is attacked by the marauders who actually come from the planet Sanyassa and also crash-landed on Endor . Many Ewoks and Catarine and Mace Towani are killed in the attack. Terak, the leader of the marauders, and the witch Charal demand "power" from Jeremitt Towani, an energy cell of the star cruiser. Terak takes her and then kills Jeremitt. Cindel has now lost her entire family and is taken prisoner to the Marauders' Castle along with Wicket W. Warrick and the other Ewoks.

However, Wicket W. Warrick and Cindel escape captivity and are pursued by two marauders. Therefore, Wicket and Cindel hide in a cave near a mountain, the entrance of which was filled in by the marauders. At the other end of the cave, the exit is high up on the mountain. To get back down from there, Wicket builds a hang glider . However, all of a sudden a kite attacks , who feels disturbed in his cave, and flies out of the cave with Cindel in his gripping arms. Wicket pursues the two with a hang glider and saves Cindel, but they crash into the forest below.

The next morning they meet Teek, a super-fast creature that lives on Endor. Teek takes them to a hut where the human Noa Briqualon lives, who is also stranded on Endor. In the beginning Noa is still very curmudgeon and doesn't want to have them with her. Apparently he's scared of making friends and then losing them again, as this has happened to him in the past. Years ago, Noa and his friend Salak crashed their spaceship on the planet. The crystal for the drive (like the energy cell stolen from Terak) was destroyed. Salak went looking for a new one, but never came back. After some getting used to, Noa befriends Wicket and Cindel and even becomes a kind of "father figure" for them.

In the castle of the marauders, the witch Charal tries to find out the "power" of the energy cell, but without success. Terak orders Charal to look for Cindel. He hopes that it knows the "power" and knows how to use it. In fact, Charal manages to kidnap Cindel through a trick. But of course Cindel doesn't know how to activate the "Force", and so she and Charal are locked up along with the other Ewoks. In the prison cell, Charal shows a skeleton in a cell and tells Cindel that it was Noa's friend Salak who spoke of the “power” that resides in the energy cells. Since Salak did not betray the "power", he was killed by Terak.

Noa, Wicket, and Teek make their way to the Marauders' Castle to free Cindel and the other Ewoks. They manage to sneak into the castle and free Cindel and the Ewoks from the cells. A marauder notices this and sounds the alarm, whereupon the other marauders go to the cell block. Cindel mentions the fate of Salak and causes Noa to take away the stolen energy cell from her parents' spaceship. The marauders pursue the refugees who run to Noa's spaceship. During a battle between Ewoks and marauders, Noa tries to activate the spaceship after installing the power cell. It finally succeeds and the marauders are defeated with the help of the on-board laser cannons. But Cindel is captured by Terak. He now demands the energy cell for freedom from Cindel. When Noa lays the energy cell on the forest floor and Terak Cindel is exposed, there is a fight between Noa and Terak, which Noa wins with the help of Wicket. After the victory, Noa and Cindel say goodbye to Endor and its residents and fly away in the star cruiser.

Technology and effects

The effects in the film are from ILM . Elaborate stop-motion animation was used for the film , as the go-motion animation was too expensive for this project. Phil Tippett and John Berg (Oscar winners) were responsible for the stop-motion effects, including bringing the Condor dragons , the Blurrgs and the Boar wolves to life in the two Ewok films.
