Star Wars: Friends in Space (Original title: Star Wars: Droids ) is an American animated television series, which in Star Wars - the universe of George Lucas plays. The action takes place before Star Wars . It tells of various conflicts between gangsters , space pirates, monsters and ruthless governors from the point of view of the two droids R2-D2 and C-3PO . The series is part of the uncanonical Legends timeline.
The series consists of thirteen single episodes and a double episode. Unusually for Star Wars productions, George Lucas had nothing to do with this series, instead his company commissioned Lucasfilm Nelvana Ltd to produce the series, directed by Ken Stephenson and Raymond Jafelice . Instead, Anthony Daniels took up his role of C-3PO as a voice actor again. From October 1989 the series was also broadcast in Germany under the name Friends in Space on ProSieben .
action
The plot is - as occurring on the basis of various comments agents of the Galactic Empire can be seen - in about nineteen year time gap between the films Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith , where the Galactic Empire is proclaimed, and Star Wars , in that the Empire is at the height of its power.
The events within the series are divided into three major cycles. With each new cycle, the owner of the two droids changes, whom they meet by chance at the beginning of a cycle and have to leave for different reasons at the end of a cycle, so that new main characters are always introduced after a few episodes. The two droids known from Star Wars: Episode 1 to 8 meet with the bounty hunter Boba Fett and another figure from the original film trilogy (episodes 4 to 6). At the end of the series, a television special appeared in the form of the double episode The Great Heep , which is part of the canon of the series. Here the history of the third cycle is told. The television special is counted as the 14th and 15th episodes of the series.
Cycle: The Trigon One
The two droids R2-D2 and C-3PO have been dumped in a junkyard by their former master because he was arrested for smuggling stolen objects. There they meet Thall Joben and Jord Dusat, two ambitious Landspeeder drivers. A land speeder is a motor-driven vehicle that moves weightlessly over the ground. Thall Joben and Jord Dusat take the two droids with them. On their way they cross a zone controlled by Tig Fromme, the son of a feared gangster. With the help of a woman named Kea Moll, the troops manage to escape the gangster's attacks.
Finally, Thall and Jord arrive at their shop and show C-3PO and R2-D2 their land speeder, which they have named White Witch . With this speeder they want to take part in the Bakda speeder race. That same night, however, Jord is abducted by a droid that is on the road on behalf of Tig Fromme. Kea Moll reveals to Thall and his droids where to find Jord and leads them to Tig Fromme's secret base.
With the help of the White Witch , they manage to save Jord; however, Tig Fromme has placed droid cruisers at the exit of the base to attack the White Witch . At the exit, Thall and Jord are also attacked. C-3PO, who is waiting at the control panel, manages to reprogram the control panel so that the droids fight themselves. Now Thall, Jord, Kea, C-3PO and R2-D2 can escape from Frommes base.
On the way to the Bakda speeder race, Thall, Jord, Kea, C-3PO and R2-D2 have to make a detour to the planet Annoo, because C-3PO accidentally broke the hyperdrive generator, which is necessary for the speed of light. There they meet Kea's mother and Sise Fromme, Tig Fromme's father. Kea's mother explains to Thall and Jordan that Tig Fromme is about to build a powerful weapons satellite. It is now up to them to destroy the satellite before it is relocated to the planet Ingo.
Jord and Kea's mother set out and hastily fly to Frommes base, where they are arrested. Thall sets out to save the two. With a thermal detonator in their luggage, they succeed in conquering the Trigon 1 weapon satellite. Thall and Kea decide to destroy the satellite when they are back on Annoo. Until then it should be hidden. Sise Fromme, on the other hand, travels far away to consider how he can gain control of the galaxy without his son.
A gang of Tig Frommes clone soldiers attempt to retake the killer satellite in an ambush. The heroes get captured again and are shipped to Tig Frommes fortress, where they are interrogated about the whereabouts of Trigon 1. Tig also reveals to them that he has captured Jord and Kea's mother and that he will not hand them over until he knows where the satellite is. Thall asks Tig to talk to his father Sise. He tells him where the satellite is. However, he hides that R2-D2 has set the satellite so that it will collide with Tig Fromme's fortress and destroy it. Sise sends Tig to find the satellite. Instead of releasing Jord and Kea's mother, he captures Thall, Kea and the droids and throws them all into Jord's cell.
A clever plan by R2-D2 manages to let everyone escape from the cell. Now Kea's mother has to be freed before Trigon 1 collides with the fortress. In the end, they manage to free Kea's mother and escape from the fortress in time. Tig, who was on the satellite, was also able to escape.
On the further journey to the Bakda speeder race, the group is attacked again by the Frommes. R2-D2 manage to repair the hyperdrive in time so they can escape the attacks at the speed of light. The group crash-landed because key engines were damaged.
In the meantime, the pious have landed on the same planet. With the help of bounty hunter Boba Fett , Sise tries to track down the attackers at his base and his expensive weapon.
During the crash landing, Jord broke his arm and no longer feels able to control the White Witch in the race. Thall must take his place. Using the BL-17 droid, C-3PO discovers a workshop room where they can prepare the White Witch for the race. However, the droid BL-17 belongs to Fromme. After an attempt to sabotage the White Witch , BL-17 is stopped by R2-D2 and C-3PO.
In the meantime, Boba Fett also knows where the group around Thall and Jord are. C-3PO learns that a thermal detonator has been attached to the White Witch . Thall and R2-D2, however, have long since left for the race that they reach just in time. During the race, they are closely followed by Boba Fett. After a few laps, Fett accidentally removes the detonator and transfers it to his own speeder, who is now in danger himself. Thall then wins the race.
After the race, Jord and Thall are offered a job, which they immediately accept. Later on the journey home, the two learn that they are not allowed to keep the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO if they accept the job. Jord and Thall want to refuse the job. R2 and C-3PO have overlooked the conversation and decide to secretly climb into an escape pod and leave the ship with their masters Jord and Thall.
Cycle: Mon-Julpa
C-3PO and R2-D2 landed on an unknown mining planet. To find a new master, the two droids offer themselves at a droid auction. Eventually they are sold to the creature Yorbo along with another droid. Yorbo is best known for his mistreatment of droids. The young miner Jann Tosh finds out how the droids are treated and swaps his new mine droids for R2-D2, C-3PO and the other droids.
Yorbo then reports to his boss, Kleb Zellock, about his lucrative business. Zellock notices that a bounty has been placed on Jann Tosh and orders Yorbo to catch him. Tosh, who is constantly on the run, gets in trouble at home from his uncle because he didn't bring the mine droids with him as agreed.
Suddenly it turns out that the inconspicuous other droid at her side is not a robot , but an unknown life form . The stranger is weakened and first needs to regain his strength, then he even saves the life of Uncle Gunday, who collapsed in a mine . Gunday calls the stranger Kez-Iban. Translated, it means something like He who has returned from the dead.
