Anthony Daniels
Anthony Daniels (born February 21, 1946 in Salisbury , Wiltshire , England ) is a British actor and voice actor .
He became internationally known for his role as the humanoid droid C-3PO in the Star Wars films. He is also the only actor who plays or lends his voice in all nine Star Wars episodes, the two films in the A-Star Wars story series and in almost all Star Wars series and specials. He has by far the most frequent appearances in the Star Wars universe.
Life
Daniels first studied law until he discovered his passion for acting. After attending drama school for three years , where he was introduced to the great art of the stage, he was awarded the Carlton Hobbs Award for radio plays . He was also a member of the prestigious BBC acting troupe. He left the group to make his stage debut in She Stoops to Conquer . Daniels then moved to the Young Vic Company, with whom he appeared in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead and Much Ado about nothing .
George Lucas was of the opinion that careful selection of the two droids from Star Wars is extremely important because a lot of the humorous of the film component of Star Wars will be transported via the two droids. He was looking for an experienced actor who was willing to play in the golden robotic costume of C-3POs . Lucas and Daniels met in the London offices of 20th Century Fox . While Daniels was waiting for the director , the English actor saw one of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art . Pictured on it was an abandoned C-3PO in the desert landscape of Tatooine in the light of two suns. During the filming of Star Wars , Daniels tried to breathe authentic life into the metal character . His conception of the droid's personality often clashed with Lucas's. At first, when the director thought of C-3PO, he had the voice of a typical American used car seller in mind. The voice that Daniels gave the droid fitted so well that Lucas abandoned his plans to have another actor dubbed C-3PO afterwards. Instead, Daniels spoke the dialogues, which could not be understood in the original recordings due to the mask.
Since his success with Star Wars , Daniels has done many commercials and other small appearances, both optical and acoustic, including on the Christmas album Christmas in the Stars from 1980. He also writes a satirical column in Star Wars Insider magazine .
