Carel Struycken ( IPA ˈkɑrəɫ ˈstrœykən); (Born July 30, 1948 in The Hague ) is a Dutch film actor . He is known for his extraordinary height of 2.13 m, which is explained by the fact that he suffers from acromegaly .

Life

At the age of four, Struycken moved with his family to Curaçao , an island in the Caribbean , where he lived until 1964. He then returned to the Netherlands, where he initially finished college . This was followed by training at the Amsterdam Drama School and a one-year internship at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles .

Struycken then worked closely with director and screenwriter Rene Daalder . But he wasn't discovered until 1977 for his film debut, which took place in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band , an adventure film with the Bee Gees among others .

In his free time, he deals creatively with panoramic photography .

Trivia

Struycken's career is similar to that of American actor Ted Cassidy . Both suffer from acromegaly and were cast in Star Trek roles, and both played the butler Lurch in various adaptations of The Addams Family .
