Men in Black (also MIB ) is an American science fiction - comedy from 1997 with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in the lead roles. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld . The theme of the film is based on the mini-series Men in Black by Malibu Comics , which conspiracy theories about agents in black suits parodied in the service of American government agencies. The film opened in German cinemas on September 11, 1997.
action
In the beginning, Agent K and his partner chase an alien who is illegally on Earth. After they have caught him, K's partner quits the job because he no longer feels up to the task due to his age.
New York police officer James Edwards pursues a criminal who eventually commits suicide by falling from a roof of the Guggenheim Museum . This gangster was an alien. Shortly thereafter, Agent K enters Edward's life, who recruits him for the secret organization "Men in Black". Edward learns that extraterrestrials have been living on Earth for decades, which, according to K, is something like " Casablanca without Nazis". Aliens from all parts of the galaxy can apply for asylum and find refuge on Earth. The Men in Black issue residence permits and, above all, make sure that the aliens on earth do not misbehave too much. Illegally immigrated aliens are deported or eliminated. A special tool to hide your activity from other people is the neuralizer, a memory extinguisher that is often used. Edward decides to live with the MIB.
After all identification features have been removed from Edward, he is now Agent J and works at Agent K's side. Together they must hunt down a giant insect, an extremely vicious cockroach , that has illegally landed on earth . The highly intelligent cockroach is looking for a mini-galaxy and is hiding in the skin of a person. The galaxy, a super energy source, was hidden on Earth by aliens. With the help of various gadgets and futuristic weapons, J and K prevent the giant cockroach from taking possession of the mini-galaxy, otherwise the whole earth will be destroyed. In one of the last scenes of the film, K quits his job and leaves the neuralizer to J so that he can erase his memory of the MIB and the aliens.
At the end of the film, the camera retreats into the sky, then further into space, past our solar system and millions of stars. In the end, you can see that our Milky Way is inside a spherical container that resembles a marble. This marble is thrown by an alien-like hand at a second marble that also contains a galaxy. Both marbles are then picked up by hand and placed in a pocket full of marbles.

Will Smith also contributed the theme song Men in Black . This song coverte the play Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen from the year 1982nd
On the occasion of the third film, Activision released the video game for the franchise in 2012 ; it has been released for the PlayStation 3 , Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii . From October 1997 to June 2001, the cartoon series Men in Black: The Series ran in the USA , which was broadcast for the first time in Germany in 1999. Since September 4, 2013, it has been running in ProSieben Maxx's afternoon program under the title MIB: Men in Black - The Animated Series.
