action

Doug Ireland is the concierge of a luxury hotel in New York City . There is hardly a wish that he cannot fulfill the guests. They usually thank them with a generous tip , the so-called "50 dollar handshake". One day, Doug plans to open his own hotel with the tips he keeps on saving. He secured the option to buy a potential property some time ago , but now needs $ 3 million before the deadline to turn the vacant building into a dream hotel.

A hotel guest, the wealthy Christian Hanover, could be an investor in the planned hotel. In return, he asks Doug to take care of his girlfriend in his absence. This turns out to be Andy Hart, with whom Doug would have liked to go out himself. Over time, Doug gets closer to Andy and even shows her the potential object.

His feelings for Andy put him in a bind , because he hopes for help from Hanover of all places. He's also got Ed Drinkwater from the tax investigation on his back. Hanover feigns Doug that he can avoid prosecution by the tax authorities if he - as a sham deal - overwrite the property.

When Andy is on the way to the airport with Hanover, he reveals that the tax inspector occasionally works for him to put pressure on people who do business with him - in which case he wants to steal the lucrative property from Doug. Andy then angrily ends the love affair with him and leaves the vehicle. Doug, however, learns that Hanover does not really love Andy and has no plans to part with his wife as promised, and tears up the prepared contracts.

In the end, Doug and Andy get married. Doug surprisingly receives a loan from Harry Wegman, a hotel guest whom he had helped with marital problems and who accidentally received the project documents for the property, and can soon open the hotel.
