Philip "Fyvush" Finkel (born October 9, 1922 in Brooklyn , New York , New York , † August 14, 2016 in Manhattan , New York) was an American actor .

Life

Finkel began his acting career at the age of nine in a Yiddish theater in New York. In the following decades, the Yiddish theaters remained Finkel's main place of activity. Although he was successful there, he was only known to a niche audience. It wasn't until the mid-1960s that he made his Broadway debut with the play Fiddler on the Roof . In 1977 he had one of his first television appearances in the television series Kojak - Use in Manhattan . He received an Obie Award in 1988 for his portrayal of a Jewish waiter in the play Cafe Crown . 1992 cast him David E. Kelley for the television series Picket Fences - Tatort Gartenzaun . Fyvush Finkel was honored with an Emmy for the role of attorney Douglas Wambaugh , and he also received a Golden Globe nomination. After the series ended, Finkel played from 1998 to 1999 in the remake of Fantasy Island and from 2000 to 2004 in the television series Boston Public . This was followed by a few appearances in film and television, despite his old age, and his work there includes more than 25 productions.

In 1947 he married Trudi Lieberman, with whom he had two sons and who was married until her death in 2008.
