Floor steward

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A ground steward (female form: ground stewardess ) deals with the handling and care of passengers at an airport .

Ground stewards are employed at the check-in counters , where they process tickets , issue boarding passes and check in baggage. After weighing, the luggage is usually transported to the security checkpoint via conveyor belts and then to the respective aircraft. The employees who look after minors and disabled passengers are also referred to as ground stewards.

In the past, the positions were often filled by flight attendants who, due to their age or other reasons - such as unfit to fly or as a result of disciplinary measures - were no longer assigned to aircraft. Today it is often a question of employees with regular training as an aviation clerk or a similar job description; the floor steward itself is not a recognized training occupation. In some airports these ground stewards are no longer employees of the respective airline, but employees of the airport operator concerned.
