Boston Public (named after the Boston Public Schools school district ) is an American television series directed by David E. Kelley ( Ally McBeal , Picket Fences ). 81 episodes were shot between 2000 and 2004. It is broadcast in Germany by the TV station VOX .
action
The series deals with the lives and problems of teachers and students at the fictional Winslow High School in Boston .
The school is run by the assertive principal Steven Harper and the choleric assistant principal Scott Guber. You are in charge of, among others, history teacher Lauren Davis, English teacher Harry Senate, whose unorthodox teaching methods keep causing excitement, especially among parents, and the former lawyer Ronnie Cooke. Then there is the age-old history teacher Harvey Lipschultz, the uptight literature teacher Milton Buttle and the depressed Marla Hendricks.
The individual episodes repeatedly address irritating issues of reality. Growing violence in schools and families, drug use by students and teachers, and school policies that keep teachers overworked and underpaid.
In the second season, the series came under pressure due to falling audience ratings and began to change actors in quick succession, but without resounding success: After the first three seasons each contained 22 episodes, the fourth and last after 15 episodes ended. One of the reasons for this was the call for a boycott by Christian fundamentalists who clashed with the topics and language of the series and called for a boycott of Volkswagen , for example , because Volkswagen was a main sponsor of the series.
Prices
In 2001, the series won an Emmy for Outstanding Art Direction for a Single Camera Series , and in 2003 the series won a prize at the Peabody Awards . The episode Chapter 37 was awarded .
