Tom McCarthy (filmmaker)
Thomas "Tom" Joseph McCarthy (born June 7, 1966 in New Jersey , United States ) is an American actor , director and an Oscar- winning screenwriter .
Life
McCarthy attended New Providence High School in New Providence , New Jersey, as well as Boston College and the Yale School of Drama . He has already played in numerous feature films and television productions. In 2003, Station Agent, his first film as a director, was released, for which he also wrote the script himself. This film won several film awards, including a. with the BAFTA Award for the best screenplay. Another film directed by McCarthy based on his own script was released in 2007 under the title A Summer in New York - The Visitor . This production also received several awards, such as B. the Satellite Award for the best script.
His work on the screenplay zu Oben earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2010 with Bob Peterson and Pete Docter .
In 2015 McCarthy took over the direction of the journalist drama Spotlight , which u. a. won the Oscar for Best Picture . McCarthy himself received a nomination for Best Director , while he and Josh Singer received the award in the Original Screenplay category.
