July 4, 2003: MI6 spy Ray Koval meets CIA agent Claire Stenwick in the US embassy in Dubai on Independence Day . He seduces her, and Claire stuns him so she can steal Egyptian missile codes from him.
Five years later he runs into her again in New York. Claire was hired undercover by equikrom to work as a spy at Burkett & Randle (B&R) , their direct competitor, in the corporate security department. When the head of B&R , Howard Tully, announced a new product to his security department so that it would keep it secret, his competitor Richard Garsik found out about a discarded copy nine days before his shareholders' meeting . He then does everything possible to find out what it is. His security department can use Ray to gain access to B & R's “unsecured” travel service and can thus copy travel data from the last six years. They also inconspicuously tap into B&R copiers .
In the course of further investigation, the equikrom spy team came across a small company in Dunwoody , Georgia , which is supposed to be active in the field of biotechnology and which was bought by B&R . The founder, Dr. Ronny Partiz, now lives in the Bahamas in a penthouse suite of a luxury hotel. Ray and another colleague try to spy on Ronny's room, but are stopped by Claire using fake cheat. B&R brings Partiz back to New York. Tully lets Claire in on the nature of the product - it's a hair restorer .
Garsik does everything to get the formula for the remedy. When a colleague of Claire's at B&R tries to steal the formula, an opportunity arises and Claire copies the formula on a bugged copier. Claire and Ray also get a copy of the formula unnoticed.
Claire and Ray travel to Zurich to meet buyers of the formula in a hotel. At the same time as selling the formula, Garsik is holding his shareholders' meeting and announcing that his company has developed a remedy for hair loss. At the sales counter in Switzerland, Ray and Claire learn that the formula is a normal lotion . After the formula had failed sales, Ray and Claire were sitting in the hotel lobby when they received a bottle of champagne with a greeting card from Howard Tully. It turns out that the head of the security department at equikrom Pam Frailes is a spy from B&R and thus Tully and his counterintelligence department have deceived their competitor Garsik as well as Claire and Ray.

Julia Roberts was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Claire Stenwick .
The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating “particularly valuable”.
