Robert Elswit

Robert Christopher Elswit (born April 22, 1950 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American cameraman .

Live and act

Before his career in the film business, Elswit studied at various universities. He attended the University of California , the University of Southern California and the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, where he graduated in 1977. He began his film career in 1977 as a cameraman for The College Gang . He also worked for Industrial Light & Magic and worked in the visual effects department on films such as Return of the Jedi . In 1980 he worked as a cameraman for the television series CBS Library . A year later he shot his first feature film, A Single Light, as the chief cameraman.

Robert Elswit has worked with a wide variety of directors in his career. He made several films with Stephen Gyllenhaal , in 2002 and 2003 he worked with Gary Fleder and the 1996 film Last Exit Reno marked the first film collaboration with Paul Thomas Anderson , which - with the exception of The Master from 2012 - has been with whose filming was continued.

In 2005 Elswit was recognized for his work on Good Night, and Good Luck. nominated for an Oscar , three years later he was awarded this for There Will Be Blood . Elswit also received an Independent Spirit Award in the Best Camera category for Good Night, and Good Luck in 2006 . In the same category, he was recognized a year earlier at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards . His first award was an Emmy in 1986 for camerawork on a CBS Schoolbreak Special.
