Carrie Preston (born June 21, 1967 in Macon , Georgia ) is an American actress and film director .

Life and accomplishments

Carrie Preston's father was an engineer, her mother an artist. Preston graduated from the University of Evansville with an arts degree and a degree from the Juilliard School . She made her debut in the 1985 drama Just a Friend , after which she only starred in the TV movie Cutty Whitman eleven years later . Since 1995 she has also appeared in several plays.

In the comedy My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), Preston starred opposite Julia Roberts , Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz ; She also took on a bigger role alongside Sarah Polley , Stephen Rea and Gina Gershon in the drama The Girl and the Photographer (1999). In the film drama Woman Wanted (2000), which won awards at two independent film festivals, she appeared in a larger role alongside Holly Hunter , Kiefer Sutherland and Michael Moriarty . In the comedy 29th and Gay (2005) she worked as a director, executive producer and film editor . Again she directed the short film Feet of Clay (2007), for which she also worked as executive producer.

Preston played Felicity Huffman's film sister twice ; once in Desperate Housewives as Lucy Lindquist and the second time in Transamerica as Sidney. Preston has been married to actor Michael Emerson since 1998 . She made a guest appearance on the television series Lost as the mother of Benjamin Linus, played by Michael Emerson. Both have other joint appearances in the television series Person of Interest , where Preston plays the fiancée of Emerson played Harold Finch.

From 2008 to 2014 she played the waitress Arlene Fowler Bellefleur on the HBO series True Blood .

From 2010 to 2016, Preston was a regular on the series Good Wife as the quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, for which she won the Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2013.

Since 2017 she has played the recurring supporting role of Elsbeth Tascioni in the Good Wife spin-off The Good Fight .
