In mid-August 2014, a pilot episode for a US adaptation of the British BBC Four series Getting On was commissioned. On March 21, 2013, HBO ordered a six-episode first season of the series. In February 2014, a second season, again consisting of six episodes, was ordered by the broadcaster. In February 2015, HBO announced the extension of the series with a final six-part third season.

The first season of the series aired on HBO from November 24 through December 29, 2013 . The second season aired between November 9 and December 12, 2014, behind the final season of The Newsroom and the revived series The Comeback . The third season was first broadcast between November 8th and December 13th, 2015.

Germany

In Germany, the first season was broadcast from March 12 to April 16, 2014 on Sky Atlantic HD . The second season was broadcast in double episodes between January 28 and February 11, 2015 and the third season between January 27 and March 2, 2016 on the station.
