Ann Guilbert
Ann Morgan Guilbert (born October 16, 1928 in Minneapolis , Minnesota - † June 14, 2016 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .
life and career
Ann Guilbert first came to prominence with US audiences in the 1960s with her role as Millie on the Dick Van Dyke Show . Further appearances in television programs such as The New Andy Griffith Show or The Fanelli Boys followed.
In addition to her television work, Guilbert played in many regional theaters. She also directed several productions. She has appeared in the plays Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett , Fifth of July by Lanford Wilson, The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder and The Emigraters by Vilhelm Moberg . In 1994 she also appeared on stage with her own one-woman show, An Evening with Ann Guilbert .
In German-speaking countries, Guilbert is best known for her portrayal of the quirky grandmother of Fran Fine, played by Fran Drescher , Yetta Rosenberg in the sitcom Die Nanny . There she was dubbed by Haide Lorenz and later by her colleague Ingeborg Lapsien . After the series ended, she largely retired and only appeared sporadically in public. However Guilbert returned to the stage and played alongside 2005 Jill Clayburgh and Richard Thomas in the play A Naked Girl on the Appian Way by Richard Greenberg .
Guilbert was married to screenwriter and television producer George Eckstein from 1953 to 1966 . The couple have two daughters, Nora Eckstein (* 1955) and Hallie Todd (* 1962), both of whom are also actresses.
Subsequently, Guilbert was married to Guy Raymond from 1967 until his death in 1997.
Guilbert died of pancreatic cancer on June 14, 2016, at the age of 87 .
