The Brünnstein is a 1634  m high mountain in the Bavarian Prealps in the Mangfall Mountains near the Sudelfeld area . It is an elongated limestone reef in an east-west direction, which drops steeply to the south and very steeply to the north. The Brünnstein is one of the most popular excursion mountains in the region.

Tourist development

The Brünnsteinhaus ( 1345  m ) is located on the eastern flank of the massif , which is managed almost all year round and also offers overnight accommodation. It can be reached from Oberaudorf (road from Rechenau 790  m , challenging toboggan run in winter), from Kiefersfelden (Hintere Gießenbachklamm car park 780  m ), from Tatzelwurm (waterfall) or from Gasthaus Rosengasse .

summit

Peterskopf (main summit, 1634.2  m )

The highest point is not developed for tourists; you can reach it from the east summit by scrambling along the exposed edge of the ridge, which is not without danger; even the view is not worth climbing.

East summit ( 1619  m )

As a rule, the east summit, on which there is a small chapel and a summit cross, is climbed.

At the Brünnsteinhaus and at the Himmelmoosalm there are hiking trails that lead from the south to the east summit; they unite shortly before the summit and then lead through steep crags (somewhat exposed, rope protection).
From Brünnsteinhaus through the east flank on the Dr.- Julius-Mayr -Weg , an easy via ferrata ( level of difficulty A ) that requires surefootedness and a head for heights ; about 45 minutes.
Brünnsteinschanze ( 1546  m )

The Brünnstein is difficult to reach in winter. Ski tourers and snowshoe hikers then climb the neighboring Brünnsteinschanze summit to the west.
