The Brünnsteinhaus is located at an altitude of 1342 m in the Bavarian Prealps at the foot of the Brünnstein . It is a base for hikers, ski tourers and mountain bikers. Climbers will also find a number of routes in the vicinity.

- from Oberaudorf ( 482 m ) via Dörfl-Rechenau, walking time: 3 hours
- from Gasthaus Tatzelwurm ( 765 m ), walking time: 2 hours
- from Gasthaus Rosengasse am Sudelfeld near Bayrischzell, walking time: 2 hours (in winter also as a ski tour)
- from Dörfl, walking time: 2 hours
- Via Buchau-Lengau walking time: 3½ hours

- Brünnstein ( 1634 m ), well secured normal route ( surefootedness required) or well secured via ferrata ( Dr.-Julius-Mayr-Weg ) to the pre-summit 1619 m , walking time: ½ hour
- Großer Traithen ( 1853 m ), walking time: 2 hours; during the closed season in winter only via Seeon-Alm and Steilner Joch
- Kleiner Traithen ( 1722 m ), walking time: 2 hours
