Location of Sudelfeld in Bavaria |
The Sudelfeld is the name of a mountain landscape in the Bavarian Alps in the Mangfall Mountains in south-eastern Upper Bavaria . There is between Bayrischzell ( Leitzachtal ) and Oberaudorf ( Inntal ) at heights between 800 and 1563 m above sea level. NN also the largest connected ski area in Germany. It is named after the mountain Sudelfeldkopf. The Sudelfeld is in the area of the municipality of Bayrischzell ( district of Miesbach ) and the municipality of Oberaudorf ( district of Rosenheim ). It is characterized by wide, curved meadows. 31 km of ski slopes (including an FIS- compliant alpine ski slalom route), five chair lifts , 12 drag lifts , two rope lifts and a conveyor belt (magic carpet) ensure a total transport capacity of 22,500 guests per hour. Technical snowmaking (machine snow ) may take place on the Sudelfeld in some cases .
In the snow-free time, the Sudelfeld is an excursion area. A small, asphalted mountain road winds its way up to 1400 m to the Walleralm / Speckalm, the highest mountain inns on the Sudelfeld, a meeting point for motorcyclists and day-trippers over a length of a good 10 kilometers . On the other hand, another cul-de-sac leads up to the Berggasthof Rosengasse at an altitude of 1,100 m. More attractive for hikers (without motorcycle noise, ski lifts and aisles) is the Brünnstein area to the east with the Oberaudorfer Almen or the Große Traithen to the south and the area southeast of the Wendelstein to the north . At the foot of the Sudelfeld, the Arzbach , which comes from the opposite Arzmoos , flows into the Auerbach (Inn) flowing past .
The area at Sudelfeld is used for alpine farming from the summer months until autumn. The Serviced includes district Rosenheim about 8% of the pasture area. Alpine farming in the Sudelfeld area is active protection against erosion.
Large parts of the Sudelfeld are protected landscape areas .
A total of nine mountain inns, some with overnight accommodation, a mountain hotel, a youth hostel and five ski schools are located in the Sudelfeld area.
history
During the time of National Socialism , the Sudelfeld test facility was located here - the air force of the "Plenipotentiary for High Frequency Research ", in which radar research was carried out. This experimental facility, like an SS mountain home that is now used as a youth hostel , was a satellite camp of the Dachau concentration camp .
Transport links
The Sudelfeld can be reached from Bayrischzell on Sudelfeldstrasse ( Bundesstrasse 307 ) over the Sudelfeldpass , from Brannenburg also over the Sudelfeldstrasse , which is toll here, and over the Tatzelwurmstrasse from Oberaudorf. The Sudelfeld can be reached from the south via the Ursprung Pass (connection to Kufstein ). The German Alpine Road along the Sudelfeld is one of the most popular motorcycle touring routes in Bavaria.
Modernization of the winter sports area
The existing developed winter sports area has been successively modernized since 2014, but not expanded. In order to have safe snow conditions in the next few years, an expansion of the existing snowmaking systems (around 20 hectares of existing snowmaking area) to a maximum of 250 snowmakers (fan guns, snow lances) and a 150,000 cubic meter storage lake (Walleralmsee) in a valley cut with corresponding compensatory measures were approved in 2014 (including the creation of biotopes) built (2014/2015). The reservoir is also used as a summer attraction with a circular path and benches. The approved snowmaking area is around 70 hectares (total groomed slope area around 120 hectares), 40 hectares of which were realized in several construction phases since 2014 by the end of 2016. For ecological reasons, the snowmaking window was limited by the authorities to the time from the beginning of the winter season until the end of February at the latest. The Bavarian Administrative Court has rejected a complaint by the German Alpine Association and the Federal Nature Conservation Union with the demand for a construction stop, as the public interest and the interest of the mountain railway operator in the progress of the construction work outweighs the problem. As a result, both organizations withdrew their lawsuit against the project due to a lack of prospects of success.
In addition, to modernize and reduce the number of lifts, a new six-person chairlift was built in 2014 (Waldkopfbahn), which replaced the three drag lifts that were completely dismantled. In 2015 a new button lift was built to replace an old drag lift. Another chairlift was built in 2017 (Sudelfeldkopf eight-person chairlift); At 6 meters per second, it became the fastest 8-seater chairlift in Germany (as of 2018). It replaces three tow lifts, the Grafenherberglift as well as the Sudelfeldkopf lifts 1 and 2. Due to the height of more than 1400 m, load helicopters were used during the work to transport concrete into the steep terrain. The new 8-seater chairlift has been connected to the Sudelfeldkopf from Grafenherberg since the 2017/18 winter season, making it the central facility on the Mittlere Sudelfeld. Are further intended for the period 2021-2026, the feeder web of Bayrischzell (A chairlift) replaced by a modern system ( gondola or tramway ).
