The Original Pass is an 836 m high mountain pass in the Alps on the border between Germany ( Bavaria ) and Austria ( Tyrol ).

The pass is located in the Bavarian Prealps , a mountain group of the Northern Limestone Alps . It is located around 11.5 km (as the crow flies ) west of Kufstein (Tyrol) and connects the Ursprung Valley (Bavaria) in the north with the Thierseetal (Tyrol) in the south. In the original valley, one of the source rivers of the Leitzach flows north to Bayrischzell . The Thierseer Ache flows in the Thierseetal and the eponymous Thiersee and the municipality of Thiersee are located .

While the river valley turns below the hamlet Vorderthiersee northeast and falls steeply towards Wachtl and Kiefersfelden (Bavaria), the road runs on the Tyrolean area to the east and leads on the winding Marblinger height ( 683  m above sea level. A. ) and past the Längsee by Kufstein. Although this section is no longer part of the Ursprung pass road, it is the only continuation out of the valley. The inclines and declines between Bayrischzell and Kufstein amount to a maximum of 13% and are accessible with caravans.

history

On May 12, 1809, there was a battle between the Tyroleans and the united Bavaria / French, in the course of which the Lieutenant of the 5th Line Infantry Regiment Preysing and later General Karl Freiherr von Pflummer made a special mark.
