The Kernhofer Gscheid , locally also called Gscheid , is a pass with a peak height of 970 m above sea level. A. in the Lower Austrian Alps. It connects the places Kernhof (in the Traisental near St. Aegyd am Neuwalde ) and Terz (in the Salzatal near Mariazell ). The pass road has a maximum gradient of 13% and is almost entirely in the Lilienfeld district .
At the top there are two inns and a small church. Since the Viennese pilgrimage route leads to Mariazell via the Kernhofer Gscheid, numerous groups use the place as a base on their way.
The limestone massif of the Göllers ( 1766 m ) rises directly south of the saddle . Its promising summit can be reached on a marked ascent in around two and a half hours.
The winding L101 leads west from Kernhofer Gscheid over the Michelbühel to Ulreichsberg .
