The Gollersattel is 790  m above sea level. A. high mountain pass in the Grazer Bergland in the Austrian state of Styria . Gollerstraße L357 connects the western foreland of the district capital Weiz with the Passail basin and the Almenland .

Location and landscape

The Gollersattel forms an inconspicuous cut between the Harl ( 1136  m ) in the west and the Schachner Kogel ( 828  m ) in the east and lies about 250 meters on the right bank above the Raabklamm . Since both sides ultimately slope down to the Raab, the pass represents only a very small-scale watershed . The low mountain range of the Burgstaller Höhe, which is geologically attributable to the Graz Paleozoic, is made up of Schöckl limestone and shows signs of karstification . Some of the underground waters of the Garracher Forest to the west and east of the Gollersattel emerge as layer springs in the Raabklamm . The top of the pass is located in the municipality of Gutenberg-Stenzengreith and is accessed by several forest roads.

Characteristic

Notice board (above) about the storm-related lock

The Gollerstraße ( L357 ) leads from Kleinsemmering an der Raab through the municipality capital Gutenberg an der Raabklamm up to Sandgruben ( 744  m ) and from there again slightly downhill to Garrach ( 682  m ). The south ramp then runs through the Garracher Forest to the top of the pass. The north-facing course of the road nestles parallel to the Raabklamm below on the north-eastern slope of Harl and Zwölferkogel. From the junction in Arzberg , the road continues along the Moderbach for two kilometers and ends in Seilnergraben on Rechberg Strasse (B 64) .

In addition to the less well-developed Gösserweg on the opposite bank, the L357 forms one of two traffic routes for overcoming the Raabklamm on a small scale. When the heavily frequented Weizklamm is closed, it mainly serves as an alternative route for commuters and excursion traffic from the Weiz area. Because of the narrow width, it is sometimes a disaster for larger trucks . As a result of the forest damage caused by the storm Paula in January 2008, the Gollersattel itself had to be closed for a period of several months. The route was not completely free again until September 2009.

Motorsport

The route over the Gollersattel has already hosted special stages several times as part of the Weiz Rally . As early as September 1952, the second stage of the 27th International Six-Day Race , a prestigious enduro race , which started in Bad Aussee , led over the pass from the north.
