The Ö Austrian A utomobil-, M otorrad- and T ouring C lub (short ÖAMTC ) is a traffic club , written as a non-partisan, non-profit association that takes lay claim to support mobile people and responsible. The association was created in 1946 through the merger of the Austrian Touring Club (founded in 1896) with the Austrian Automobile Club (founded in 1898).

The club is a founding member of ARC Europe (international association of automobile clubs , cross-border projects and services) and a member of the most important international umbrella organizations for automobile and touring clubs : the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, 49 clubs and associations with around 100 million individual members worldwide ) and the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme). He works closely with the German ADAC .

General

The association had more than 2.2 million members in 2018. It is Austria's largest and the world's seventh largest automobile club.

Structurally, the club is an amalgamation of seven regional associations, whereby the federal states of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland are combined in one regional association. The ÖAMTC is financed exclusively by membership fees and the income of its subsidiaries and does not receive any state subsidies. In terms of content, the club sees itself as an interest group of mobile people in Austria. In his work as a non-profit association he also provides services for the general public, e.g. B. Air ambulance. The head office is in Erdberg (Vienna) .

Sports sovereignty in motorsport

The Austrian Motorsport Federation (AMF) of the ÖAMTC represents national interests in the world federations FIA and FIM and has national sports sovereignty for motorsport in Austria. Breakdown assistance

In 1959 the Steyr Puch 500 was put into service as the first breakdown assistance vehicle (picture shows a vehicle built in 1965)

In 1954, the ÖAMTC breakdown service was founded and on October 18 the first trip with a sidecar motorcycle took place . In 1958 a Steyr Puch 500 was tested for use as the first breakdown assistance car and in 1959 61 Puch 500 breakdown vehicles were put into service.

Emergency assistance number 120 is available for all of Austria for round-the-clock breakdown assistance . In contrast to some mobility guarantees, the focus is on fixing breakdowns on site and ensuring that ÖAMTC members continue their journey safely. The vast majority of breakdowns are fixed on site; If this is not possible, the vehicle is towed to a workshop and the member and his fellow travelers are organized (Clubmobil, public transport , overnight accommodation). In 2017, the breakdown drivers of the ÖAMTC went to breakdown operations 705,123 times.

The approximately 700,000 breakdown missions annually are coordinated by four operations centers. Around 500 vehicles are available for use in over 100 locations across Austria.

With the optional cover letter , members have the opportunity to extend emergency aid coverage to all of Europe. In the 16 European emergency call stations, over 250 German-speaking employees are available around the clock to offer help and support in emergencies.

The ÖAMTC offers its members various technical services at its bases. This includes the §57-a assessment for the inspection sticker ("Pickerl"), purchase reviews for used vehicles , security reviews (search for possible security-relevant weak points), changing wheels and similar services.

Legal assistance

In the whole of Austria are in 17 locations Christopher - emergency helicopter stationed. Until 2001 air rescue was carried out jointly with the Austrian Armed Forces and the Federal Gendarmerie. After that, the Christophorus Air Rescue Association, together with the Red Cross , the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service and the Vienna Rescue Service, took over the entire service in Austria. Emergency helicopters are used not only in traffic accidents , but also in alpine accidents or medical emergencies.

Driving technique centers

The club maintains driving technology centers that offer , among other things , driver safety training , advanced driver license training and training for truck drivers or drivers of blue light organizations. Traffic information

Since 1965, the ÖAMTC and the ORF have been providing information on the current situation on Austria's roads through traffic radio. The club provides its traffic information but also through other channels available, such as RSS - web feed and phone-tape service.

The club tests the current tire models in several dimensions with its European partner clubs every six months.
