Raimund ("Mundl") Baumschlager (born November 25, 1959 in Rosenau am Hengstpaß ) is an Austrian rally driver and multiple Austrian national rally champion. He achieved his first overall rally victory in 1986 with an Opel Manta B i400 . As a result, he was a works driver at VW until 2000 . Raimund Baumschlager is married and has one daughter.

Career

Baumschlager completed his motorsport driver's license in 1978 and then competed in various slalom races. In 1982 he started a rally for the first time in the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen-Rally . Between 1982 and 1985 he drove with little financial means in various vehicles in the Austrian State Rally Championship . When he was able to show his talent, he was accepted into the Upper Austrian rally team a year later. Since 1986 he has also participated in a number of European Rallycross Car races. In 1987 he took part in the World Rally Championship for the first time , and to date he has taken part in 12 rally classification races. In 1993 he won the overall ranking of the Austrian State Rally Championship for the first time.

In 1995 Baumschlager took part in the 24-hour races in Spa and the Nürburgring with VW, and in 1997 he finished fourth in the 24-hour races in Spa. In 1999, in addition to his rally involvement, he also drove the ADAC VW New Beetle Cup and came in 12th overall.

From 2003 to 2010 he was national champion eight times in a row in the Austrian State Rally Championship, six times with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution , the last two times with a Škoda Fabia S2000 . He achieved further national championship titles in the Austrian State Rally Championship in the years 2012 to 2015 and 2017; In 2014 he achieved the twelfth and thus the record state champion title in Austria.

In 2004 he was the winner of the diesel class at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. At the Mitropa Rally 2005 he came second in the overall standings. Baumschlager was Upper Austria's Sportsman of the Year in 2009.

Companies

In 2003 he founded Baumschlager Rallye & Racing GmbH (BRR), which among other things offers vehicle construction and rally support. Baumschlager is also involved in this company as a consultant and as a test driver in development work.
