The Kalte Kuchl is a pass landscape in the Gutenstein Alps in Lower Austria . It forms a transition over the main Alpine ridge between Hegerberg ( 1179 m ) and Jochart ( 1266 m ) and has a pass height of 728 m above sea level. A. on.
Location and streets
The Kalte Kuchl connects Kleinzell in the north with Schwarzau in the mountains in the south. The municipal boundary between Kleinzell and Rohr in the mountains is right at the top of the pass . The inn of the same name located there and a road to the west to Ochsattel belong to Kleinzell, as do the few houses in the village. The houses to the south and west (Naglreith / Werasöd) belong to the long side of the Rohr im Gebirge community .
The B21 Gutensteiner Straße Wiener Neustadt - Mariazell leads over the saddle , a connection over the Rohrer saddle to the Piestingtal in the east. It does not cross the pass itself, but leads to yet another, inconspicuous pass, the Flur In der Grün (around 800 m ), and at Werasöd continues over the Ochsattel to the Traisental in the west. To the north, the L133 branches off here to Rainfeld an der Gölsen.
history
The crossroads, which originated in the 11th century, were first mentioned in a document in 1335 as box Khuen , which means summer pasture .
A first rest stop was built in the 15th century. But it was redesigned in 1756. The well-known inn has been in the family for four generations. Over time, the small rest area grew. In 1975 the building was renovated, extended and given its current size. The old walls and the tram ceiling in the dining room are contemporary witnesses from earlier centuries.
Today the pass road is a popular motorcycle route.
open air museum
On the place of the Kohlstatt , a charcoal burning factory, Rudolf Thron (1919–2017) set up the open-air museum for historical folklore Kalte Kuchl . Because the place is on the Via Sacra , a pilgrim chapel was built in 1993.
