The Kreuzbergsattel , also known as Kreuzberg, is 1074 m above sea level. A. high mountain pass in the Gailtal Alps , which run through Upper Carinthia .
The Weißensee Straße B 87, which connects the upper Drautal with the parallel Gailtal , leads over the saddle . It crosses the mountains at an inclined angle of about 45 °, its endpoints are the district capital Hermagor in the southeast and Greifenburg / Drau in the northwest. Because of its low height of only 500 meters above the two valley floors, the route is also a historically significant transport link.
On its north ramp, the road runs between the Weißensee ( 930 m above sea level ) and the rugged Reisskofel ( 2371 m ), of which it offers impressive views. The southern part is flatter and connects the villages of the 15 km long Gitschtal (including Weißbriach and St. Lorenzen ) with the Gailtal and its district town Hermagor.
The pass is also called "Carinthian Kreuzberg" to distinguish it from the South Tyrolean Kreuzbergpass (or Sextener Kreuzberg).
