The Gössering is a tributary of the Gail in Carinthia .

The valley through which it flows is called the Gitschtal . The Gössering rises below the Reisskofels and flows into the Gail after about 22 km south of Hermagor near Möderndorf.

Despite numerous structures and two hydropower plants, the Gössering can still be viewed as relatively close to nature. The only Carinthian occurrences of the jackdaw crab are in the Gitschtal .

A popular excursion destination is the Gösseringgraben with the Gössering waterfall.

In Hermagor it feeds a mill stream . It has meanwhile lost its importance as a source of energy for mills, sawmills and forges.
