The Klachau , also called Klachauer Höhe , is a pass landscape in Upper Styria that connects the Ennstal near Irdning ( 673  m ) with the Hinterberger Tal ( Bad Mitterndorf , 809  m ) in the Styrian Salzkammergut . It connects with the low pass height of 833  m above sea level. A. the Grimming  ( 2351  m ) and the Dachstein Mountains with the Dead Mountains . The valley watershed Krunglbach (to Salza ) / Grimming (bach) is at the west end of Tauplitz train station near Schrödis ( Lage ). On the Ennstal side at the top of the pass is the village of Klachau , which belongs to the Tauplitz community .

While the Klachau runs flat to the north into the wide Mitterndorfer basin , to the south it drops about 100 meters into the narrow Grimming valley. The important traffic connection is developed through the Salzkammergut Straße and the Salzkammergutbahn . The former 19% slope of the federal road on the south side was eased in the 1970s. In addition, the Untergrimming avalanche gallery was built between 1992 and 1994 and expanded to a length of 411 meters in 2008.
