The Salzabach (also Salza or Mitterndorfer Salza ) is a 27 kilometer long river in the Styrian district of Liezen ( Expositur Bad Aussee and Expositur Gröbming ), which flows into the Enns from the left near Niederöblarn .

course

The Salzabach rises on the southern edge of the Dead Mountains northwest of the Tauplitzalm at the foot of the Schneiderkogel. After about 500 meters it seeps away on the Ödernalm , only to reappear after another 500 meters. Then he takes the Öderntal initially towards the west before, at the Lawinenstein - umfließend, turns south - a foothill of the Dead Mountains.

In Bad Mitterndorf he reaches the wide, east-west extending Hinterberg valley , which he crosses from north to south, now with a smaller gradient. Here it absorbs numerous smaller watercourses and thus drains the central part of the Hinterberg Valley.

Between the Grimming and the Kemet mountains of Salza stream cuts through in a very narrow transverse valley , the Salza ravine , the limestone massif of the eastern part of the Dachstein area . At the end of the gorge, a 53-meter-high dam was built at the end of the 1940s, which dams the Salzabach into the 5.5-kilometer-long Salza reservoir . A small power plant connected to it has an output of 8 megawatts.

After crossing the municipality of Sankt Martin am Grimming , the Salzabach forms the border between St. Martin and Mitterberg up to its confluence with the Enns .
