geography
Geographical location
The former municipality of St. Martin am Grimming is located between Stainach and Gröbming on the Ennstal main road at 700 m above sea level and consisted of several picturesque villages at the foot of the Grimming , which is immediately north of the villages of Espang , Oberstuttern , Diemlern , St. Martin, Prenten and Salza rise up as a protective wall against the rough north. South of the former municipality, in the middle of the valley, extends the 800 m high and approx. 10 km long wooded Mitterberg (an ice age moraine), on whose high plateau there are several villages. Due to its low height, there is a wonderful view from St. Martin in a south-westerly direction of the Niedere Tauern, which is snow-covered well into summer.
In the local area of St. Martin am Grimming lies the romantic Salza reservoir , of which a newspaper wrote: “Not everything that has been made by human hands is rejected by nature conservationists. Example: The Salza power plant near St. Martin am Grimming. As early as 1948, technology and nature were known to be tastefully combined. "
The oldest news about St. Martin am Grimming comes from the year 1201, when Duke Leopold stayed in Admont on August 28th and the St. Martin Chapel "in the village of Eich" with all its rights, property and the monastery gave to the peasants. According to the document that Duke Leopold issued in Admont , the village of Eich, as St. Martin was formerly called, was owned by the princely Pürgg and had always been free from the mother parish of Gröbming .

Coat of arms of the former municipality
Red shield, which is divided by a silver sword, indicates the knight's cloak of St. Martin , who divides the cloak with his sword ( Martin's legend) and thus refers to the community name.
The two diamonds at the top right are taken from the Admont monastery coat of arms and refer to the subservience (tax dependency) of the two cadastral communities of Diemlern and St. Martin at the time. The golden kettle hook on the lower left reminds of the fact that the Lengdorf cadastral community belonged to the Göß monastery at the time . The coat of arms of the Göß monastery was a black kettle hook in a gold shield.
The municipal coat of arms was supposed to symbolize the rich historical past of the former municipality of St. Martin am Grimming, behind which there is a community population, both externally and internally.
