Baden-Württemberg Consumer Commission

The Baden-Württemberg Consumer Commission was founded by the state government of Baden-Württemberg in December 2005 as an independent body to advise state policy on fundamental questions of consumer policy.

goals and tasks

One focus of the commission's work is improving communication between consumers, business, the media and the state. The consumer commission develops recommendations for an active consumer policy of the state, the federal government and the European authorities. The Baden-Württemberg Consumer Commission wants to help turn consumers into equal market partners. To this end, consumer literacy must be promoted and the transparency of the markets improved for consumers. Consumer education and consumer information are central concerns on the way to self-confident consumers.

Plenary meetings of the body take place twice a year, at which topics are discussed and a selection is made for inclusion in the work program. The intensive content processing takes place in working groups that work all year round. The topics dealt with by the consumer commission and the statements are published on the website of the consumer commission Baden-Württemberg.

This voluntary committee of experts for consumer issues is considered a model for similar bodies in other federal states and at the federal level.

The Baden-Württemberg Consumer Commission is a political advisory body. It therefore does not process any individual consumer inquiries.
