In April 2013, Lucia A. Reisch and a few colleagues proposed that consumer policy in Germany should be made more evidence-based and that an independent expert council be set up for consumer issues. After this proposal was included in the coalition agreement of the 18th electoral term of the Bundestag of the Merkel III cabinet , such a body and its members were publicly presented by the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection in early November 2014 . Lucia A. Reisch has been elected Chair of the Independent Advisory Council on Consumer Affairs.

In January 2016, the Council of Experts, which she heads, presented the results of its work and recommendations on consumer policy in the digital world, according to which the quality of information should be improved, the competence of consumers strengthened and the legal protection of personal data guaranteed. In the press, these work results were sometimes rated as "very general" and in one case referred to as "platitudes".
