history

The educational institution was founded in 1917 as a private institution. The college became part of the national education system in 1965. For several years now, English has been the predominant language of instruction.

The Danish University Act of 2003 ("The Danish Act on Universities - The University Act - Act no. 403 of 28 May 2003") stipulated that universities should be run by a "University Board". Rectors, deans and heads of department are no longer elected by the employees and students, but determined by the board. The "Board" consists of external and internal university members. The external members are selected based on their personal suitability for four years plus a maximum of four years. You must have experience in management, organization and economics including the evaluation of budgets and annual financial statements. The external members form a majority on the board, determine and provide the chairman. Academic employees such as doctoral students, employees in technology and administration as well as at least two students without a first degree are the remaining members of the "Board".

It was founded by the University Act of 2003, the previous Advisory Councils were abolished and replaced by the University Board. As one of two universities in the country, it was allowed to use the Danish term for business school, handelshøjskole . IT-højskolen i København, previously managed by CBS, has become an independent IT University in Copenhagen . Since the incorporation of the Aarhus School of Business into Aarhus University in 2007, only CBS and Aarhus University are allowed to use the designation Business School in Denmark.

overview

The university has around 21,000 students and 900 employees, making it one of the largest business schools in the world. However, it is independent, i.e. not part of the University of Copenhagen . In addition, it accepts around 1,000 exchange students annually. Until December 31, 2006, it was divided into two faculties: the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Language, Communication and Culture. On January 1, 2007, the two faculties were merged.

Locations

The main part of the university buildings is in Frederiksberg , an independent city that is completely enclosed as an enclave by Copenhagen and is directly adjacent to the center of Copenhagen. Lectures primarily take place in the buildings at Solbjerg Plads, Dalgas Have, Graduate House, Kilen and Porcelænshaven. Some of these buildings have repeatedly received architectural awards. Most of the buildings are not far from Den Grønne Sti .

research

According to its research profile, the university covers a wide range of topics within the humanities and social sciences. The academic breadth reflects the social need to understand business in a broader social, political and cultural context. A special feature of the Copenhagen Business School is, in addition to traditional research positions, to always involve lateral thinkers in research in order to enable a variety of ideas. In addition to a large number of scientists who deal with preventing the negative effects of climate change , Bjørn Lomborg was also a denier of climate change at the Copenhagen Business School. In addition to neoclassical economists, the Copenhagen Business School also employs political scientists with a decidedly left-wing orientation. By allowing controversial perspectives and promoting an environment for interdisciplinary research, the Copenhagen Business School has earned an international reputation as a “forge of new ideas”. More than half of the academics are recruited from abroad, which gives Copenhagen Business School's research an international character. The working language is English.

Study programs

As in Germany, the regular study programs at Copenhagen Business School are free of charge. The Copenhagen Business School aims to train students in a variety of ways. It is not uncommon for students to combine their business education with topics from philosophy, political science, sociology or psychology and thereby take a more creative view of business than is the case at traditional business schools.

The CBS offers 19 Bachelor's, 20 Candidate, 10 Executive Master's and PhD programs. Since 2009, the CBS has also been associated with two new Danish Elite Master's programs, one of which is carried out in cooperation with the University of Copenhagen . There is also an Open University and a Summer University program. The Copenhagen Business School attaches great importance to high quality teaching. Professors, for example, must complete extensive additional didactic training during their employment.

In the area of executive education, the CBS runs an exchange program with the Executive Master of Public Administration course at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin.

Sports

With CBS Sport, the university offers a comprehensive range of sports. Several students competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , including Pál Joensen and Jacob Barsøe . Barsøe won the silver medal ( lightweight foursome without a helmsman ). A well-known former runner and CBS student is Loa Olafsson .
