Harvard Business School
The Harvard Business School , officially named the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration: George F. Baker Foundation carries and also by the acronym HBS is known, is one of the graduate schools at the US Harvard University in Cambridge (Massachusetts) . It is considered the most respected business school in the world and is ranked # 1 by Bloomberg, the Financial Times and BusinessInsider.
history
On October 1, 1908, the faculty began operations under Dean Edwin F. Gay with 15 lecturers and 80 students . The first location was Cambridge, Massachusetts . In 1927 the faculty moved across the Charles River to its current location in Allston , a borough of Boston . Female students were first admitted to the regular MBA program in the 1965 class . There are currently approximately 65,000 living alumni of Harvard Business School.
Course offer
A full-time MBA program lasting two years, a doctoral degree in various specializations ( leading to a DBA or PhD degree ) and various programs for executive education are offered. Currently, around 930–940 students are accepted into the MBA program per year, divided into ten groups (named from A to J). Each of these groups goes through the courses of the first year together, which should make it possible to establish close social contacts within this group. Around 99.5 percent of a year group successfully complete the MBA program. The courses are carried out almost exclusively in the form of case studies , which the students prepare and discuss in the courses.
Rankings
Since 2005, Harvard Business School has refused to actively participate in the ranking of business schools. Nevertheless, the university regularly occupies the top positions in international MBA rankings. Most recently she was z. B. 2016 ranked 2nd in the global MBA ranking of the Financial Times.
In the Eduniversal Business School Ranking 2016, Harvard Business School is listed in 2nd place, with Copenhagen Business School in 1st place and INSEAD in 3rd place. This ranking is based on a survey of deans of leading universities worldwide.
In the 2013 Webometrics Ranking Web of Business Schools, Harvard Business School was ranked third worldwide, with Wharton School ranked 1st and Copenhagen Business School 2nd.
In 2000, The New York Times wrote that, based on its reputation, the HBS was “one of the two best business schools in the country, a notch above Pennsylvania's Wharton School [and others].” (German: “one of the two best business schools of the country, a little way above the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania [and others] ”). Regarding the rivalry with Stanford , it is said that Harvard “may have the advantage of better name recognition than Stanford, and more resources.” (German: “could have the advantage of better recognition of the name and better features”).
The then President of the Wharton School , Donald C. Carroll , said in 1976: “The great secret of the Harvard Business School's success has been its great emphasis on executive education, which has kept the school very much tied into corporate America. Harvard Business School Publishing
The faculty is the sole owner of the publishing house Harvard Business School Publishing , which publishes books on the subject of corporate management, case studies and the monthly Harvard Business Review , which is also published in a German-language edition under the name Harvard Business Manager .
