Andreas Oehler (born October 29, 1960 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German economist and professor of business administration , especially finance.

Life

Andreas Oehler studied economics and business administration in Mainz and Mannheim and graduated in 1985 with a degree in business administration. In 1989 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The acceptance of technology-based self-service in the private customer business of universal banks at the University of Mannheim for a doctorate in economics ( Dr. rer. Pol. ). His habilitation took place in 1994 at the Open University in Hagen in the subject of business administration.

Since 1994 he has held the chair for business administration at the University of Bamberg , and since 2012 he has been director of the research center for consumer finance and consumer education. He works in the areas of financial markets, empirical & experimental financial market research, credit risk management, financial intermediation (banks, insurance companies, funds etc.), behavioral finance, old-age provision, retirement savings, investor & consumer protection, consumer finance, consumer education, financial literacy, personal finance, household finance .

Andreas Oehler was one of the first economists in German-speaking countries who dealt intensively and systematically with institutional and behavioral approaches in the field of finance and financial markets . This includes in particular his empirical and experimental research since the early 1990s.

Since 2001 Andreas Oehler has also devoted himself to consumer research and consumer policy and publishes studies on consumer education and consumer finance . In 2012, the Consumer Finance & Consumer Education Research Center was set up at the University of Bamberg , headed by Andreas Oehler as Director. In this area he carried out the first scientific and empirical studies on private, funded old - age provision and "Riester" products , minimum standards for financial services, especially consumer financial products , investment advice , product labeling and product information . He also looked at the mismatch of financial services that cause billions in financial damage to consumers . He has also carried out studies on socio-ecological financial products . He is also a founding member of the Society for Socio-Economic Education and Science (GSÖBW).
