Axel Kleinlein

Axel Kleinlein (born October 6, 1969 in Lower Franconia) is a German graduate mathematician. He has been Chairman of the Board of the Association of Insured Persons (BdV) since November 1, 2011 (with an interruption from March 22 to September 14, 2013 ).

Professional activities

Axel Kleinlein studied mathematics and philosophy at the University of Cologne and at the Free University of Berlin . He graduated as a mathematician.

From 1998 to 1999 he worked in the actuary at Allianz Lebensversicherung in Stuttgart. Among other things, he worked out actuarial company history analyzes and dealt with issues of consumer protection when creating and revising insurance conditions .

From 2000 to 2002 he served in the Stiftung Warentest as a project manager in the Department of Financial Services the area of life insurance and retirement plans . The results of his research were published in the journal Finanztest . In addition, he presented the test results and the test methodology in the media, at conferences and at meetings. The recall campaign (September 2002), which was unique in the history of Finanztest, due to incorrect calculations of the Riester pension, took place in his time.

In 2003 he switched to Assekurata Assekuranz Rating Agency in Cologne. There he led several industry studies on life insurance and was in charge of the company's public relations. In close cooperation with Oskar Goecke , he led the new edition of the plausibility check at Assekurata; a new prospective stochastic approach was followed ( Monte Carlo method ).

In 2004, Axel Kleinlein founded the actuarial and specialist journalistic office math concepts , where it offered actuarial and specialist journalistic services. The focus was on checking financial service contracts on behalf of injured consumers. He worked with many renowned consumer law firms. The focus was on the German and British insurance markets.

He also carried out studies on questions of old-age provision and social security (e.g. working time accounts , unemployment insurance ). Because of his independent view of the financial industry, he was often a discussion partner in these subject areas for associations, parties, trade unions, parliament, government, etc. Through this independent positioning, there are diverse and close connections with consumer protection. In 2007 he also supported the Federation of German Consumer Organizations (vzbv) as a speaker for the area of ​​old-age provision and capital investments. In the finance committee of the German Bundestag he represented consumer policy positions as an expert.

From November 1, 2011, Axel Kleinlein was Chairman of the Board of the Association of Insureds . On March 22, 2013, the Supervisory Board announced that Axel Kleinlein was leaving the Board of Management with immediate effect due to differing views on the “content and personnel orientation” of the BdV. A new supervisory board was elected on September 14, 2013 by an extraordinary general meeting that was then forced by the members. This brought Kleinlein back and reinstated him as chairman of the board of the association with immediate effect.
