Hohenheim is a district on the Filder plain in the south of Stuttgart . Together with the districts of Asemwald , Chausseefeld , Plieningen and Steckfeld , Hohenheim forms the Plieningen district .
The district is known for the Hohenheim Palace , built in 1782, and the University of Hohenheim , whose campus extends over a large area around the palace.
Attractions
Sights in Hohenheim are the Hohenheim Gardens with the State Arboretum (exotic garden and landscape garden) and the botanical garden. They are mainly used for teaching purposes by the students and are therefore well labeled, but are largely freely accessible. There are special access conditions for the German Agricultural Museum, the zoological and veterinary museum in the castle and the Museum of the History of Hohenheim. The castle used for the university is partly freely accessible, other areas are occasionally organized with special tours.
traffic
From 1888 to 1967 Hohenheim was connected to the local rail passenger traffic via the Möhringen – Hohenheim railway line. Today the U3 light rail line runs between Möhringen and Plieningen (University of Hohenheim) . The final stop is to the west of the Plieningen district town hall, the remaining 700-meter section to Stuttgart-Hohenheim Palace has been closed. However, the terminus got the additional name University of Hohenheim . To the east of the district town hall, other bus lines stop at the Plieningen-Garbe stop on Filderhauptstrasse. The large campus of the university begins immediately afterwards, so that many areas are easily accessible on foot from here. However, you can also take the Stuttgart tram buses to the center of the university by the castle. The area is also easily accessible with several bus lines from the Degerloch stop.
